Ruffwear The Beacon Dog Safety Light

What it is

The Beacon is a small clip-on safety light sold on Ruffwear's official product page. Ruffwear calls it "a high-performance safety dog light to help keep dogs visible in low-light conditions or inclement weather," and says it is "durable and waterproof, with an easy-to-use Quick Clip that attaches to Ruffwear apparel, harnesses, collars, and other gear." The official page lists the light as waterproof "to a depth of 1m of water for 30 minutes," with a rechargeable 280mAh lithium polymer battery charged by the included micro USB cable in about 1.5 hours. Ruffwear says it offers three LED colors and three modes (Slow Flash, Fast Flash, and Always On), an operating time of up to 20 hours, and a translucent shell that "exudes light from all angles." The listed materials are a polycarbonate body and a stainless steel gate. Treat those statements as the maker's own wording, checked against the live official Ruffwear product page on 2026-10-03 ET, not as independent test results. This page covers only The Beacon at the URL below.

Availability on the official Ruffwear product page varies; as of October 4, 2026 ET the Clear Lake variant showed Out of stock / Coming Soon.

Why it matters for a light-coat Lab puppy

A white coat is easy to see in daylight, but at dusk, before sunrise, or in a Florida downpour a pale dog can disappear against wet pavement and headlights. The light-color walk gear category already lists Blue-9 hardware and the Noxgear LightHound, a lighted harness. The Beacon is a different approach: a small light that clips onto the collar or harness Theo already wears, so visibility can be added for early or late walks without changing his walking gear. The stated 1 meter waterproof rating is relevant for wet walks and rain. Clip it where it does not dangle into his mouth or interfere with the leash attachment, and check that the clip stays put as he grows; that fitting advice is Theo's own inference, not a Ruffwear statement.

Not this

A light helps people and drivers see a dog; it is not a leash, a harness, a GPS tracker, or a substitute for walking on safe routes and keeping control of the dog near traffic. It is not a chew toy, and a puppy should not be left alone with a small battery-powered item it can reach. The waterproof rating, battery life, and visibility statements are Ruffwear's own claims and are not repeated here as tested results. Customer reviews, prices, retailer listings, referral links, and tracking URLs are out of scope. This listing is only Ruffwear's The Beacon Dog Safety Light at https://ruffwear.com/products/the-beacon-safety-dog-light. Blue-9 and the Noxgear LightHound remain separate directory seeds for the same gear type. This page is an official alternate, not a ranking.
