What it is
PetStep's Dog Ramp for Pools combines the maker's folding pet ramp with its pool-leg kit. The official page describes a 70-inch by 17-inch deployed ramp made from fiberglass-reinforced plastic with a paw-friendly ridged rubber surface designed to retain traction underwater. It weighs 18.5 pounds, folds for storage, and carries a maker-stated 500-pound capacity for animals only. Two pool-leg lengths are available. PetStep says the system is intended for pools measuring between 3.5 and 5.5 feet from the top edge to the pool floor; installation requires the legs to stand on the pool floor and the top grip to rest securely on the pool edge. The maker recommends removing the legs rather than leaving them in chlorine or saltwater for days and rinsing them regularly to limit oxidation.
Why it matters for a light-coat Lab puppy
A Tampa Bay pool needs an exit Theo can find and use before anyone treats swimming as play. A broad, submerged traction surface gives a young Lab a repeatable route out without expecting him to climb a human ladder or wait to be lifted. Measure the actual pool rather than assuming compatibility, install the correct leg length, and teach the route with an adult in the water. Start beside the ramp, guide him to it from short distances, and repeat until he turns toward the same exit from different parts of the pool. Recheck stability and hardware before every session.

A ramp is one exit, not a complete pool-safety system. It does not replace a code-compliant barrier, secured gates, a pool alarm, a properly fitted life vest, deliberate exit training, or an adult actively watching Theo around water. The 500-pound figure is the maker's animal-only capacity, not permission for a person to stand on the ramp. A published depth range does not prove fit with every coping shape, liner, slope, or deck; confirm that both legs are planted, the upper grip is secure, and the ramp cannot shift before Theo enters. Stop using it if the surface, hinge, braces, fasteners, feet, or pool edge are damaged or unstable.
